Skjonning Verigan Named As Tehachapi Fatal Accident Victim

On Wednesday, June 10th, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office identified the male driver killed in a collision in Tehachapi, California. In updated car accident reports, the sheriff named Skjonning Kevin Verigan, 39, as the victim.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Verigan was a driver in one of the two vehicles that collided at about 5:10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9th. The investigators said one of the cars overturned on Route 202 near Reeves Street, causing a total blockage of the roadway.

The CHP said that the Kern County coroner was called to the scene to help identify the drivers involved. They closed the roadway for several hours while they investigated and cleared debris from the road. There is no information on the driver of the other vehicle; the investigation remains active.

Car accidents are common in California and the United States, and most of it results from human error. People die daily from otherwise avoidable collisions, and who dies or survives is dependent on the nature of the injury suffered.

The common causes of traffic accidents include distracted driving and drunk driving. It takes only about three seconds for a distracted driver to crash, and intoxication causes impairment of a motorist’s cognitive abilities leading to over speeding and recklessness.

Other causes are overtaking illegally, driving in bad weather with an unfit vehicle, and not stopping at red lights and stop signs. Driving at night without headlights, tailgating, and driving on the wrong way also cause motor vehicle accidents.
