The man killed last weekend in the Sebastopol area of Sonoma County, California after his vehicle swerved off the road and hit a power pole has been identified. Accident reports supplied on Monday, April 13, revealed the deceased’s identity as Maurilio Vasquez-Heraz, a 30-year-old resident of Santa Rosa.

The fatal crash took place just before dawn on Saturday, April 11. Officers were dispatched to the location on State Highway 116, near Cooper Road following reports of a solo car crash.

Investigators determined that Vasquez-Heraz was traveling through the westbound traffic lanes on the state highway in a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The vehicle suddenly drifted off the highway and struck a dirt embankment. It then proceeded to slam into a utility pole located off the roadway, pushed forward on the road shoulder, and rolled over multiple times, expelling the unrestrained driver in the process.

Emergency responders attempted to rescue the driver and sole occupant of the Jeep, but Maurilio Vasquez-Heraz gave in to his injuries while en route to the hospital.

Following the crash, all lanes of Highway 116 were shut down as a result of several powerlines scattered on the roadway, from the fallen electric pole.

The road was reopened after the electric crew replaced the damaged lines.

The accident reports did not reveal whether impairment by drugs or alcohol was a factor in the traffic wreck.

The tragic occurrence remains under investigation.
