Devante Edmond Is Hit-and-Run Motorist Who Injured One-Year-Old Jonathan Mitchell

Ten days after a one-year-old was tragically struck by a car and abandoned in a gutter in Stockton, California, authorities have disclosed the identity of the hit-and-run driver as Devante Edmond, 23. The perpetrator, who was identified on Wednesday, April 1, has remained in police custody, and a car injury lawyer assigned to the victim would ensure justice is served.

The sad incident occurred at about 5:55 pm on Sunday, March 22, involving a vehicle and a child pedestrian. According to police reports, the suspect was driving through the 1500 block of East 9th Street in a silver Sedan when he struck a toddler standing on the sidewalk.

The one-year-old victim, Jonathan Mitchelle, was thrown into the roadside gutter as a result of the impact, causing him severe injuries.

Edmond fled the scene of the collision without stopping to render assistance to the toddler.

Fire department operatives arrived at the scene shortly after and rescued Jonathan, who was writhing in pain at the bottom of the gutter. He was rushed to UC Davis Children’s Hospital, where he has remained in critical condition, supported by a ventilator.

Law enforcement eventually located the hit-and-run motorist and arrested him. Edmond is being held at the San Joaquin County Jail on a charge of felony hit-and-run.

The family of the hospitalized pedestrian can seek the professional aid of a car injury lawyer, to ensure they are duly compensated for damages caused.
