A man sustained injuries in a tanker truck crash that occurred on the Interstate 5 on Monday, August 10. The injured man was identified by the authorities as Nader Barsom, 46, of Quartz Hill according to the latest accident reports. The identity of the victim and other details surrounding the incident were released by the California Highway Patrol the next day on Tuesday, August 11.
According to CHP, Barsom was traveling northbound on the I-5 when the accident occurred. He was driving a semi truck pulling a loaded tanker. Just after crossing the Bowman Road, the front tires of the semi failed. As a result, Barsom lost control of the vehicle. The tanker then overturned and came to rest on the right shoulder of the road. It also collided with the guardrail on the side of the road, causing some damage to it.
Once it had overturned, the tanker truck blocked the right lane of the road. The semi’s fuel tank began to leak following the accident, causing fuel to be spilled onto the roadway. The tanker thankfully remained sound and didn’t suffer any leaks.
Nader Barsom sustained minor injuries in the incident. The accident occurred at around 8 p.m. on Monday night and once the law enforcement personnel arrived on the scene of the crash, the northbound lanes of the I-5 were shut down. These remained closed for nearly 7 hours while the authorities conducted on-site investigations and removed the semi and the truck from the site.
California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident. No other persons or vehicles were involved. Subsequent accident reports may confirm the exact cause that led the semi to lose control.
