A teenager turned up dead over the weekend after a vehicle he was riding in as a passenger crashed into another in south Bakersfield, California. The incident which played out on Sunday, May 17, calls for the intervention of a car accident lawyer.

The Kern County Coroner’s Office reported the weekend crash late afternoon. Deputies said two other commuters suffered injuries in the mishap on River Road, just north of Corpus Road.

Preliminary reports suggest a 2010 Subaru WRX conveying the fatal victim and two others collided with a Freightliner truck at the intersection. The Subaru was traveling through the north traffic lanes on Old River, with 16-year-old Andon Urbina, of Tehachapi, as a rear seat passenger.

Police said the motorist, identified as McKenna Nicole Urbina of Tehachapi, failed to yield to oncoming traffic at an intersection. The young woman instead turned the Subaru to the left and entered the crossing, onto the opposing lane.

The move caused her vehicle to collide with the southbound Freightliner approaching the intersection at the time. Both cars suffered damages in the collision. First responders pronounced Andon Urbina deceased at the scene.

Another teenager, identified as Isabella Urbina, 18, was present in the vehicle when it crashed. The California Highway Patrol said the teenager and McKenna both suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and did not require hospitalization. All three occupants were wearing seat belts.

Meanwhile, the operator of the truck, identified as Garcia Lopez, a 61-year-old resident of Shafter, went unscathed.

Deputies believe drugs and alcohol did not contribute to the fatal crash. The incident, however, is still being investigated by the CHP.

Victims of traffic collisions can contact a car accident lawyer for legal counsel and, if deemed necessary, representation.
