Pedestrian Killed in Bakersfield Train Accident Identified as Terrence Letrey Griffin

A pedestrian who was killed by a train on Thursday while standing on the Union Pacific Railroad tracks in East Bakersfield, California, has been identified as Terrence Letrey Griffin, 26. The Kern County Sheriff’s Office disclosed the fatal victim’s identity on Friday, April 3, following notification of his relatives, who are likely to consult an auto accident attorney.

The tragic train versus pedestrian accident took place on the morning of Thursday, April 2. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash site at about 8:19 am after it was called in by witnesses.

Police reports affirm that the train ran over the victim who was standing in a non-pedestrian area of the railroad at the time of the collision in Edison Highway, just east of Morning Drive.

Griffin suffered fatal injuries in the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene. It was not immediately clear why the pedestrian was on the tracks.

The Union Pacific Railroad Police is investigating the railroad accident.

Railroad fatalities in the state are more often than not caused by negligence on the part of the pedestrian, especially when distracted by external factors like mobile devices.

However, outdated technology, overspeeding locomotives, and unprotected rail access may also be responsible for such accidents.

Therefore, the family of the fatal victim in a vehicle-pedestrian collision are expected to consult professionals, like an auto accident attorney, to access the case and ensure efficient review of the available evidence.
