Two months after a deadly accident in Contra Costa, California, took the life of a female driver, the Contra Costa Coroner’s office has identified her. She is a Discovery Bay resident, named Tina Thuydoung Ha, 44.
The coroner released the deceased’s name on Friday, February 21st. The cause of death got listed as an accident resulting from the trauma brought on by the injuries she sustained when she crashed her car.
The accident that ended Ha’s life took place on Vasco Road on December 21st, 2019. According to the California Highway Patrol, the deceased was driving a 2019 Nissan Sedan when she crashed.
Ha was traveling north on Vasco Road, south of Brentwood, when a 2007 Acura SUV hit her car head-on. First responders found the deceased unresponsive at the scene and could do nothing to revive her.
The driver of the Acura, who remains unnamed, sustained significant injuries and was transported to the John Muir hospital in Walnut Creek. Police found prescription pills in the car of the unnamed woman.
They also found cannabis concentrate inside the car, and it led the authorities to believe the Acura driver was possibly intoxicated. She was later charged with DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
The charges are taken seriously in California courts. Under California law, a person whose intoxication leads to death faces between four to ten years imprisonment depending on the facts of the case.
The person will also have his or her license revoked for a time as prescribed by the court. Drivers are advised to maintain a BAC below .08 percent, and only get behind the wheel when sober.
