The accident report placed the time of the occurrence at about 9:40 p.m. Investigators reported that 18-year-old Cassidi Bessey of Turlock drove a 2017 Honda sedan eastbound on West Main when she struck a 2008 Fantic Motor Lei Moped heading in the same direction.

The collision impact ejected Naranjo from the moped, leaving him with severe injuries. Medics arrived at the scene and performed CPR on the victim before conveying him to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, where he later passed away.

The CHP said that Naranjo was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. There is no record of another injury, and the investigation is ongoing.

Traffic accidents are among the leading causes of deaths in California and other parts of the United States. When riding a Moped, it is vital to follow safety tips to prevent severe injuries and loss of life.

Moped riders must wear a helmet approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation, with a face shield. Wear goggles or glasses with plastic lenses to protect the eyes against insects, wind, dirt, rocks, or other airborne matter.

Obey all traffic rules and control devices, ride with traffic flow, and pay attention to the roadway. Additionally, pass vehicles with extreme care, especially near intersections, be aware of motor vehicle blind spots, and maximize visibility at night.
