A 35-year-old pedestrian was tragically hit and killed by a fast-travelling Metrolink train in Santa Fe Springs, California. The victim was hit on the evening of Tuesday, March 3, near Rosecrans and Marquardt Avenues.

The attention of the Whittier Police Department was drawn to the fatality shortly after it occurred at about 5:25 p.m. As reported, the pedestrian was struck by the Orange County Line 688 train on a rail track in Santa Fe Springs.

According to one of the officials of Metrolink, Scott Johnson, the train accident victim was in a non-pedestrian area of the rail track around Rosecrans and Marquardt Avenues when the fatal crash took place.

The deceased has been identified as Jarret Hudson, a 35-year-old California resident. Police have begun investigations into the incident to ascertain the cause of the accident.

Possible causes include train personnel error, mechanical error, malfunction, reckless actions, signalman error or train track failure. Further details about the train versus pedestrian crash are yet to be revealed.

The Metrolink is known to serve at least 55 stations across the Southern California region, including Orange County, where the incident took place.

Information gathered from Metrolink correspondents revealed that the Orange County Line 688 train runs from Los Angeles’ Union Station to Oceanside in the County.

Following the tragic incident, several trains scheduled to set out after 5:25 p.m, the reported time of the accident, were cancelled or delayed by the Southern California regional rail system.
