Authorities have identified the two people killed in a wrong-way wreck Wednesday on U.S. 5 in San Diego.
Mark R. Luther, 58, and Porsha Stander, 33, no city of residence disclosed, died from injuries sustained in the wreck, which occurred just after 1:15 a.m. on U.S. 5 northbound near the intersection with Fifth Avenue. No one else was injured in the crash.
According to the California Highway Patrol, local authorities received a report of a wrong-way driver on U.S. 5 early Wednesday morning. A short time later, authorities received another call reporting a two-vehicle crash in the same area.
The witness told authorities he checked on the people in the vehicles and both were unresponsive. Emergency responders arrived on the scene and determined that the drivers, identified this weekend as Luther and Standard, had died from their injuries.
A California Highway Patrol notice said Standard was not wearing a seatbelt, while Luther was.
The report does not make clear which driver is suspected of driving the wrong way on the highway, nor does it reveal what other factors might have contributed to the crash. It lists the “manner” of the incident as an “accident.”
Both Luther and Stander died from blunt-force injuries, according to the report.
