Updated accident reports released on Monday, July 13th, revealed that divers with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department discovered the body of “Glee” star, Naya Rivera, 33. The actress went missing while swimming in Lake Piru, Ventura County, California.
The victim was last seen on Wednesday, July 8th. The sheriff’s office has not released an official statement, but they found Rivera’s body using sonar equipment. The search for the actress paused during the weekend, but divers resumed on Monday morning and found the body.
The police initially carried out a search and rescue operation after a swimmer at the lake found the victim’s 4-year-old son, Josey Hollis Dorsey, asleep onboard a floating boat without his mother. The boy told investigators that he and his mom had gone swimming, but she didn’t return to the vessel.
The search became a body recovery operation when searchers failed to recover the body on Wednesday. The VCSO said that they believe that Rivera died in a tragic accident. Sgt. Kevin Donaghue revealed that apart from using side-scanning sonar equipment and divers, they used sniffer dogs, helicopters, remote-operated submarine vehicles equipped with cameras.
The police will provide more details as events unfold; there is currently no additional information.
