A vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash on Thille Street in Ventura, California, left a 42-year-old man fatally injured. The accident took place on Tuesday, April 28, as stated in the accident reports.

Officers responded to the crash in the evening of the said day, following reports of an unresponsive pedestrian on the roadway just north of Thille Neighborhood Park.

Investigators determined that the man was struck by a car in the area of Thille Street and Saratoga Avenue. The circumstances leading to the collision remain unclear.

When emergency responders arrived, they found that the severely injured pedestrian was still alive. Paramedics accompanying the responding officers transported the victim to an area hospital where she sadly gave in to his injuries.

Authorities have since identified the victim as Larry Kirby, 42, of Ventura. Police did not disclose the identity and condition of the motorist that struck Kirby.

The accident reports did not ascertain whether impairment by drugs and alcohol played a role in the traffic collision.

The fatal incident remains under investigation by the Ventura authorities. Investigators would try to determine the events surrounding the accident, as well as what caused the motorist to strike Larry Kirby.

Possible causes include distracted driving, overspeeding, intoxication, impatience, or unclear traffic signals.

In addition, pedestrians jaywalking across the highway has also been known to be a leading cause of vehicle-pedestrian fatalities in the state.
