One woman lost her life over the weekend after her vehicle encountered a solo crash in Visalia, California. Available accident reports reported that the incident occurred on Saturday, August 22nd.
It happened just before 11:17p.m., on Highway 198, a few miles east of Akers Street. The California Highway Patrol reported that Dorien Hernandez, 31, of Madera met her end while driving a 2006 Ford Expedition on the westbound lanes of 198.
The woman suddenly drove her Expedition towards the left side of the Highway. It left the road and entered a dirt center divider. Almost immediately, Hernandez’s car smashed into the guardrail of the median and rolled over several times. The female motorist, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, ended up ejected from the vehicle before it came to rest over the guardrail.
CHP officials and other first responders found Dorien Hernandez unresponsive when they arrived. Medics pronounced her deceased at the scene. Although toxicology reports are pending, investigating officers believe impairment was a major player in this crash.
Among other possible accident causative factors are speed, improper lane change, mechanical faults, unmediated health conditions, or distracted driving. All these factors are avoidable by adhering strictly to all traffic safety rules and regulations. These regulations include not drinking while driving, obeying stop signals and red lights, driving within the speed limit, using seat belts, and maintaining the right lane.
