Coroner’s office has released a positive identification in a motorcycle accident earlier this week. It has been confirmed that the deceased is 28-year-old Vitaliy Lenikov.
Lenikov, of North Highlands, was killed after being ejected from his motorcycle on February 11 in North Highlands. The accident occurred on southbound Watt Avenue near the intersection of Karl Drive around 8:00 p.m.
The California Highway Patrol has determined that Lesnikov was riding his 2010 BMW motorcycle southbound on Watt Avenue, too fast. He rear-ended a Toyota Corolla and was ejected from the motorcycle.
His body landed in the faster lane of Watt Avenue. Paramedics recovered the severely injured body of Lesnikov from the road and transported him to a local hospital.
Personnel at the hospital pronounced Lesnikov dead at 8:16 p.m. as relayed by the California Highway Patrol. His injuries were too substantial, and he succumbed to them.
There has been no indication made that Lenikov was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
California law requires that all motorcyclists wear a helmet while on a motorcycle. This includes passengers and drivers. The helmet must comply with the United States Department of Transportation standards.
The driver of the Toyota stayed at the scene of the accident and cooperated with the police. They were not injured in the accident.
The California Highway Patrol does not suspect that drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in the accident. They are not issuing any charges regarding the accident.
