A multiple-vehicle collision in the early hours of Monday, September 7th, injured William Thomas Black, 51, and several others. The crash, which occured on Hesperia Road, Victorville, California, led to the roadway’s closure for several hours.
The car accident report placed the time of the occurrence at about 3:26 a.m. between Hughes and Seneca Road. When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they found that the incident involved two Victorville Police Department patrol cars, a gray Hyundai, and a gold Toyota Sienna.
The Sienna left the west side of the roadway, struck a tree, and partially lifted above the ground. The police said that the events leading to the collision began with the chase of the allegedly stolen Hyundai around 3:20 a.m. on La Mesa Road and Amethyst Road.
The pursuit ended when the Hyundai driver stopped in the no.2 lane of the southbound lane of Hesperia Rd. Five occupants fled on foot, but the police successfully detained three and placed them in the patrol cars.
Officers were carrying out a stolen vehicle investigation when the Sienna collided with the rear of the patrol car and went on to strike the Hyundai’s open door. The impact threw an officer standing in front of the vehicle about 20 feet, and he landed on the floor.
Medics transported the lawman to a local hospital to treat minor injuries. A 42-year-old male sitting in the first patrol car, a 29-year-old female, and a 50-year-old male in the second police vehicle suffered injuries and received treatment in a hospital.
Black complained of pains, and medics took him to Victor Valley Global Center. The investigation is ongoing, and it is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a role. The San Bernardino County Region II, Major Accident Investigation Team, is heading it, and anyone with information should contact Deputy Scott Lafond on the listed line.
