On Tuesday, March 3rd, officials of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, Hinesville, Georgia, revealed that the woman who was found in the woods after a car crash is Mandy Michelle Morehouse, 32.
The sheriff, Steve Sikes, in a press briefing said Morehouse had been declared missing on Monday night, March 2nd. But no action was taken at the time to ascertain her whereabouts.
On Tuesday afternoon, an unnamed EMT officer was in the woods off Briar Bay Road conducting a metal detecting experiment when he found an 8-year-old girl wandering. The little girl later told authorities that she had been walking for two days after leaving her mother at a location she can’t remember.
Morehouse’s daughter had stayed with her until she stopped “Moving.” The authorities immediately rallied together, and the Georgia State Patrol brought a helicopter with a heat sensor to help in the search.
Shortly after, they located the young woman’s body three miles from her wrecked vehicle. Morehouse was long dead by the time they got to her, and they took her body to the coroner for identification.
The deceased’s daughter had no serious injuries from the accident but had scrapes and cuts from walking through the woods. Sikes said there’s no evidence of foul play in the accident, but the police remain unsure of what led to the crash, or how the woman ended up away from her vehicle.
The Sheriff’s Office and the GSP had the help of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the Midway Police Department, Long County Sheriff Office, and Chatham County helicopter services.
