A man has been charged with driving under the influence (DUI) after he caused a crash injuring five people. The incident took place on the afternoon of Thursday, March 12.
According to the details shared by the authorities, the accident happened in Marengo. Chad Morin, 45, of Marengo was driving a maroon Honda SUV at the time of the crash. Morin was driving on the East Grant Highway when he appears to have lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle then left the roadway near the area of the Taco Bell and struck a silver Ford SUV.
The SUV has a number of occupants in it at the time. It rolled over due to the impact of the collision. Two adults and two children, who were in the SUV, incurred injuries and were transported to a local hospital. However, their injuries were non-serious and they were soon released after treatment at the medical facility. Chad Morin also sustained mild injuries in the crash and was soon released after treatment at a nearby hospital. A Taco Bell sign was also hit in the accident and sustained minor damage.
A number of agencies and department responded to the incident and took part in the rescue, cleanup and investigations. These include Marengo Fire and Rescue Departments, Marengo Police Department, Huntley Fire Protection District and the Woodstock Fire Protection District.
Authorities have now charged Morin with DUI and improper lane usage. Preliminary investigations show that Morin was under the influence of alcohol when he caused the crash.
