On Thursday, May 28th, the police in West Springfield, Massachusetts, arrested a man who drove while intoxicated, caused an accident, and fled the scene. Brandon Lubanski, 34, would need the services of a drunk driving attorney to represent his interest.
The crash report disclosed that around 5:30 p.m., officers from the West Springfield Police Department arrived at Park Street and River Street after a call about a three-vehicle collision. They found two damaged cars and the drivers at the scene.
The motorists informed the lawmen that a black pickup truck struck their car and fled the scene at top speed. Moments later, the driver of the pickup crashed into a utility pole, broke it, and ended up hitting another car. The drivers of the three vehicles affected did not sustain any injury.
Lubanski was the driver of the black pickup, and the police on examining him found that the man could barely form a proper sentence. The officers said they perceived a strong alcohol smell from the suspect and his wrecked vehicle.
The man allegedly had to sit on the floor as he could not stand straight, and medics took him to an area hospital to get evaluated. Further investigation uncovered several beer cases and empty bottles and cans. Witnesses told the officers the man drove erratically and went through the intersection without stopping.
Lubanski is in police custody and facing charges of reckless operation of a motor vehicle and possession of an open container, hence the drunk driving attorney. He is also charged with operating under the influence of liquor, alcohol in a motor vehicle, and has two counts of leaving the scene of damaged property.
