Authorities on Wednesday arrested a man on multiple charges, including attempted murder, a day after they said he struck and dragged a state trooper during a traffic stop in Taunton.
Claude Remy, 32, of Dorchester, was arrested Wednesday morning in Framingham on charges of attempted murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery of a police officer, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, larceny and assault with intent to murder, according to the Massachusetts State Police.
Remy also was cited with failure to stop for police, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, a left lane restriction violation and a marked lane violation, according to press release. The release does not say whether he has obtained the services of a car injury attorney.
Troopers said Remy was driving a pickup truck on County Street in Taunton at about 8 p.m. Tuesday when he was pulled over for a violation. The trooper approached Remy’s truck, which was stopped at a gas station, and an altercation occurred, according to the release.
The trooper, whom authorities have not publicly identified, was pulled by Remy’s truck and eventually thrown to the ground, causing the trooper to strike his head. Remy then fled the scene, authorities said.
The condition of the trooper wasn’t available as of Thursday evening.
The investigation continued into Wednesday, when troopers learned Remy might be hiding at a residence in Framingham. He was apprehended at about 11 a.m. Wednesday, according to the release.
Remy was ordered held on a $75,000 bond. If he has obtained representation from a car injury attorney, he might be able to pursue a bond reduction during a future hearing.
