Authorities have identified the two women killed Tuesday afternoon when their vehicle crashed into a thrift store building in Fall River.

Dinasalia Medeiros, 74, and Chantel Gould, 29, both residents of Fall River, died in the early afternoon crash, Fall River Police reported Wednesday. Two other occupants of the vehicle, including an 18-month-old infant, were hospitalized with serious injuries, according to car accident reports.

Police said Medeiros was driving north in the 400 block of Second Street shortly after noon Tuesday when she struck a curb. The vehicle went off the roadway and crashed into a Second Street building housing a thrift store, according to car accident reports.

Medeiros and her front-seat passenger, Gould, were pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck as a result of their injuries, emergency medical personnel reported. The backseat passengers, identified in car accident reports only as a 23-year-old Fall River woman and her 18-month-old son, were hospitalized for serious injuries.

Police said Wednesday that both backseat passengers remain hospitalized but are listed as being in stable condition. No other vehicles were involved in the wreck and no other injuries were listed on car accident reports.

The incident remains under investigation by the Fall River Police Department and the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office. Investigators have not said whether they suspect factors like intoxication, speed or inattentive driving might have contributed to the incident.
