The driver in a 2018 single-vehicle East Bridgewater crash that killed four teens was sentenced this week to spend a few months in a juvenile detention facility after he was found guilty of four counts of vehicular homicide.

Naiquan Hamilton, 19, Stoughton will be detained at the Masschusetts Department of Youth Services until he turns 20, local authorities determined. His birthday is in July.

Hamilton was behind the wheel May 19, 2018, when his vehicle crashed into a tree near U.S. 106. Four passengers, all classmates of Hamilton’s at Stoughton High School, were in the vehicle at the time of the wreck.

Christopher Desir, 17, of Brockton; Eryck Sarblah, 17, of Stoughton; and Nicholas Joyce, 16, of Stoughton, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, authorities said. David Bell, 17, of Stoughton, later died at an area hospital.

Hamilton also was injured and was transported to a hospital in Boston for treatment, according to authorities.

Investigators at the time said drugs likely were a factor in the crash. In additional to the charges of vehicular homicide by negligent driving, Hamilton faced four counts each of manslaughter while under the influence of drugs and vehicular homicide while under the influence of drugs.

A jury in February found Hamilton guilty of the negligent driving charges. However, he was acquitted on all charges involving drug use.
