Keith Arsenault Dies Days After Head-On Crash In Auburn, Mass.


Police said a Douglas man has died days after he was critically injured in a head-on crash Thursday in Auburn.

Keith Arsenault, 34, died Sunday night at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, according to local police. Authorities said his birthday was upcoming in just a few weeks.

He was seriously injured in a crash just before 2 p.m. Thursday on Route 20 near the Worcester line. Authorities said Arsenault was struck head-on by Dennis Maccarone, 30, of Westminster.

Investigators determined Maccarone was driving eastbound on Route 20 when he crossed into the westbound lane. Arsenault attempted to swerve to avoid Maccarone, but the vehicles collided head-on.

A stretch of Route 20 was closed for an extended period as investigators worked on scene.

The crash occurred just minutes after Maccarone was issued a citation for speeding on Route 20. He was pulled over about two miles away from the crash for allegedly was driving 70 mph in a 40 mph zone.

Maccarone was cited for a marked lanes violation and driving negligently in connection to the crash. Additional charges are pending, authorities said, and the state Registry of Motor Vehicles suspended Maccarone’s license on the recommendation of police.
