The identity of a man killed earlier this week after his vehicle left the road and struck a telephone pole in Lowell, Massachusetts has been disclosed. In the updated accident reports released on Tuesday, May 26, authorities named the fatal victim as Jaime Cortijo, a 31-year-old resident of Dracut.

The incident took place at about 9:15 p.m. on Monday, May 25, in Lakeview Avenue and Ottawa Street. Only one vehicle was involved in the traffic wreck, according to the Lowell Police Department.

Initial reports showed the fatal victim was traveling through the east traffic lanes of Lakeview in an Infiniti coupe, approaching the interchange of Ottawa Street. For reasons yet to be established, the eastbound vehicle drifted off the roadway and smashed into a telephone pole.

The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office revealed the motorist was en route to Lowell from Dracut when the accident happened.

Emergency responders arrived at the crash site a short while later and found the driver unresponsive. They confirmed him dead at the scene not long after. No one else appeared to have been present in the Infiniti with Cortijo at the time of the fatal occurrence.

The cause of the crash is still unclear. The office of the DA, assisted by the Lowell Police, are investigating the incident, with a possible reconstruction of the scenario.

Investigators would release additional findings in subsequent accident reports, upon completion of the investigative process.
