Radhames Marrero Killed In Crash On Interstate Near Andover

Authorities have identified the man killed in a two-vehicle rollover wreck Saturday on Interstate 93 near Andover.

Radhames Marrero, 35, of Dorchester, was pronounced dead at an area hospital shortly after the wreck, which occurred just before noon Saturday, according to car accident reports from the Massachusetts State Police. The other driver involved in the incident did not report any injuries, authorities said.

Troopers said Marrero was driving north on Interstate 93 near Exit 42 at 11:58 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle. Marrero’s van rolled over, crashing into the other northbound lane, according to car accident reports.

Marrero’s van then was struck by another northbound vehicle driven by 34-year-old Dorchester man. Troopers said the other driver, whose name was not publicly disclosed, was not injured.

Investigators determined that Marrero was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck, according to car accident reports. He was ejected from the vehicle during the incident.

Marrero was transported to Lawrence General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, troopers wrote in a press release.

The northbound lanes of Interstate 93 were closed for about two hours while investigators worked at the scene. The incident remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police, as well as the division’s Collision Analysis Reconstruction and Crime Scene Services sections.

Authorities said the reasons for Marrero losing control of his vehicle are “still under investigation.” They have not said whether factors like intoxication or speed are thought to have contributed.
