Shamara Castillo Killed In Lawrence Crash

Authorities said a woman died Sunday night following a multi-vehicle crash on an interstate near Lawrence.

Shamara Castillo, 25, of Methuen, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred just after 10:30 p.m. Sunday on Interstate 495, according to car accident reports from the Massachusetts State Police. No one else was injured, troopers said.

Castillo reportedly was driving south on the interstate at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday when she lost control of her vehicle and veered off the roadway. Castillo then drove back onto the road, but her vehicle overturned and she was ejected, car accident reports state.

Castillo’s vehicle then was struck by a second operated by a 41-year-old Plaistow, N.H., man, authorities reported. A third vehicle, driven by a 61-year-old Monson man, also struck Castillo’s car. Neither driver reported injuries.

“Ms. Castillo was determined to be deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the crash,” troopers wrote in a press release.

The interstate was shut down for more than three hours after the incident while investigators and crash reconstruction experts worked at the scene. Authorities said they still are investigating what led Castillo to lose control of her vehicle and crash.

Car accident reports list multiple agencies, including the Andover Police and Fire departments, the Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, that assisted at the scene.
