Driver Arrested For Role In Seattle Crash That Killed David Harder

A man accused of fatally striking a motorcyclist and fleeing the scene last week in Seattle has been arrested on multiple criminal charges, according to authorities.

Payton L. Maddy, 26, was arrested Friday on several charges, including vehicular homicide, according ot the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Investigators said Maddy fatally struck David Harder, 61, with his vehicle on Wednesday morning during a possible attempt to evade police.

Maddy will be represented during upcoming court proceedings by a car injury attorney.

According to court documents, police attempted to make contact with a man, later identified as Maddy, who was driving a vehicle that lacked a valid license plate on Wednesday morning. The officer began following Maddy, who began to drive in a suspicious manner, authorities said.

Maddy eventually turned onto 15th Avenue Northeast where he crashed into a motorcycle operated by Harder, who was driving south, authorities said. Harder reportedly was thrown from his motorcycle, suffering injuries that proved to be fatal.

Police said they located Maddy hiding nearby about 15 minutes after the crash. He allegedly showed signs of drug use and admitted using heroin.

Maddy was arrested on charges of vehicular homicide, reckless driving, felony hit-and-run, driving with a suspended license and an ignition interlock violation, according to prosecutors.

Online records don’t list any upcoming court dates for Maddy. It is unclear whether he has yet retained the services of a car injury attorney.
