Authorities have identified the man killed Monday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in Northwest Washington.
James M. Cuthbertson, 40, of Northwest Washington, died from wounds sustained in the wreck, which occurred after 3 p.m. Monday, according to car accident reports from the Metropolitan Police Department. No other vehicles were involved in the incident and no additional injuries were reported.
Police said Cuthbertson was driving in the area of Interstate 395 near New York Avenue at about 3:20 p.m. Monday when he lost control of his vehicle. He crashed into a traffic signal pole, according to car accident reports.
Police said no one else was in the vehicle at the time of the wreck. It wasn’t clear from car accident reports available Thursday whether he was pronounced dead at the scene or if he succumbed to his wounds at an area hospital.
Few details about the incident were available Thursday. It is unclear what direction Cuthbertson was driving just prior to the wreck, and investigators have not said whether factors like speed, inattentive driving or intoxication might have played a role in the incident.
Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Multiple people posted memories of Cuthbertson on Facebook after word of his death spread.
“Today my youngest brother (Cuthbertson) passed away,” wrote one woman. “I’m really sad because everyone that knows me knows how I feel about my family.”
Another person asked that friends “keep his kids and family in (their) prayers.”
“My heart is heavy right now because it’s hard to take,” the woman wrote.
