A woman who was reportedly test-driving a car with intent to buy it has been arrested after leading officers in pursuit and crashing the vehicle into a fence in Pasco, Washington. The incident was recorded on Tuesday night, May 5, according to the accident reports.
Confirming the encounter, Pasco Police said the chase began at about 11 pm when an officer spotted the suspect driving a 1996 Ford Taurus along Court Street.
The motorist, later identified as Julieta Lopez, a 28-year-old resident of Pasco, allegedly cut off two vehicles driving towards her in the opposite lanes of travel. The erratic move prompted one of the motorists to apply the brakes abruptly just in time to avoid a traffic crash.
The officer who witnessed the incident immediately followed in pursuit of Lopez in a bid to get her to pull over. However, the traffic offender failed to slow down but continued through the northbound 18th Avenue into the east lanes on Pearl Street.
Just as she sped through a residential neighborhood, her flight came to an end, with the vehicle rolling up against a fence in an alley. The officer then restrained the suspect until backup arrived.
Deputies discovered that the motorist was driving with a revoked license and that she was not the registered owner of the Ford. However, when the police contacted the owner to confirm if the vehicle was stolen, the owner assured them that Lopez was test driving the car with consent.
Police arrested the suspect for attempting to elude. She remains on investigative hold at the Franklin County Jail, as stated in the accident reports.
