A car wreck that occurred on Monday, May 18, left a 71-year-old man, Peter Ortega, dead, and a woman, Maria Ortega, 58, injured. According to accident reports, the crash occurred on I-82, near milepost 73, Grandview, Washington.

Peter and Maria were traveling west on the Interstate when the accident happened at about 10:04 p.m. Reports from the Washington State Patrol state that Peter lost control of the vehicle, causing him to veer off the roadway. The car rolled down an embankment before coming to a rest.

When paramedics arrived at the scene of the crash, they pronounced Peter Ortega dead. Maria had sustained injuries and medics took her to Kadlec Regional Medical Center, where she continues to receive treatment. The WSP said driving too fast for the conditions was a factor in the wreck.

Speeding is a cause of many accidents that occur on the roadway. Drivers must maintain caution when driving and never go beyond the speed limit of a road. During bad weather, motorists must move slowly and safely.

Driving too fast in terrible conditions poses a risk to drivers, their passengers, and other road users. Speeding during bad weather conditions can lead to losing control of their vehicles and skidding off the roadway. Such happenings can lead to severe injuries or death.

Bad weather reduces visibility and makes driving risky; hence patrol officers caution drivers against traveling in such conditions.

Accident reports reveal that many collisions occur during unfavorable weather conditions. Hence drivers should wait until the weather is more favorable before driving. However, if they must drive, they must drive safely and cautiously, without speeding.
