Authorities said two people, including a 95-year-old woman, was injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday evening in Benton County near Richland.
Reba Howard and Larry Russell, 50, both suffered injuries in the crash, Washington State Patrol troopers reported Thursday. Both were passengers in a vehicle driven by Renee Russell, 51, authorities said.
Renee Russell reportedly was driving her vehicle east on U.S. 82 at about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday when she struck a disabled car that was stopped in the roadway. Jesus Cervantes, 52, had stopped the car in the right lane near the junction with Highway 12, troopers said.
Howard and Larry Russel were transported from the scene by emergency medical personnel, according to the Washington State Patrol. The extent of their injuries wasn’t immediately clear.
Renee Russell was not injured in the wreck. It wasn’t immediately clear whether Cervantes was in the vehicle at the time of the crash, and authorities did not report that he suffered any injuries.
Both vehicles were severely damaged in the crash and are considered total losses, authorities said. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, but authorities said they do not believe drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.
