Two teens suffered serious injuries early Friday morning in a single-vehicle crash near Lynden, according to authorities.
Nineteen-year-old Yashleen L. Singh, of Lynden, and Chase L. Abshere, also 19, of Blaine, were transported to area hospitals for treatment of major injuries, the Washington State Patrol reported. Investigators did not list any other injuries in car accident reports.
Singh at about 2:45 a.m. Friday was driving east on Abbot Road when she lost control of the vehicle near Thiel Road, according to car accident reports. The vehicle left the roadway, struck a utility pole and then crashed into a parked tractor, according to authorities.
Investigators said both Singh an Abshere likely were wearing seatbelts at the time of the wreck. However, both sustained serious injuries and were transported to area hospitals for treatment, according to authorities.
Authorities did not provide an updated condition report Friday night. No other vehicles, aside from the parked tractor, were involved in the wreck, according to car accident reports.
Troopers from the Washington State Patrol continue to investigate the wreck. However, authorities did say that they suspect intoxicants like alcohol or drugs likely contributed to the crash.
Authorities have not announced any citations or charges in connection to the incident. However, troopers said charges are pending.
Singh’s family and friends used social media to provide updates about the teen’s condition.
“My cousin Yashleen Singh is near death after a horrific car accident,” one person wrote. “The family is asking for a prayer chain to be shared across Facebook.”
