Early Monday morning, a California commuter train in Alameda County struck a fallen tree, derailing and falling into nearby creek.

Investigators believe a recent mudslide had caused the tree to make its way into the tracks, causing the ACE Train to crash. One of the cars ended up partially submerged in the water, placing them in danger from the strong currents in the creek.

In all, nine people were seriously injured and five others were treated for minor injuries.

Alameda County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ray Kelly commented “This is an absolute miracle that no one was killed, no passengers or first responders.”

In a video posted to Twitter by the Alameda County Fire Department, the rushing currents paint a chilling picture of the scene at the crash.

Another tweet from the fire department was able to show the full scope of the chaotic scene.
