Five Injured, One Critically, In Brutal Van Nuys Four-Vehicle DUI Wreck

A Chevy SUV was flipped completely upside-down, critically injuring the driver, in a brutal, multi-vehicle collision that injured a total of five, around 12:00 a.m. on March 10, 2015, when a speeding VW driver allegedly ran a red light at Van Nuys and Victory Boulevards, leaving several families wondering about the safety of their loved ones in the early morning hours last Tuesday.  The teen driver of the VW was later taken into custody and charged with felony DUI.

Multiple Serious Injuries

Four people were seriously injured in this auto accident, included the intoxicated driver who caused the wreck, and the Chevy driver was in critical condition when hospitalized for her injuries from the crash. A fifth person sought treatment for injuries from the motor vehicle accident and was later released.

Speeding Through Red Light

Witnesses said that around midnight Tuesday, a white Volkswagen Passat blazed into the intersection, ignoring a red light. First, the VW vehicle crashed into a dark Chevy Trailblazer. Immobilized, the Chevy driver, a young woman in her 20s, along with a passenger, were left helpless as they watched two other vehicles smash into theirs. The force of that second impact flipped the Chevy completely upside-down, trapped between two vehicles in a tangled twist of metal, from which the driver and her passenger had to be disentangled by rescue workers.

Los Angeles police officers who investigated the serious car crash said the Volkswagen was driven by a young male, age 19, and from the excessive amount of damage caused by this motor vehicle accident, they believed the VW had been traveling at least 70 mph in a 35 mph zone.  Police later arrested the young man at the hospital, charging that drunk driving or impaired driving caused the terrible pile-up.

Who Will Pay?

Even if the teenage driver of the Volkswagen didn’t go to jail for causing the accident by drunk driving, his excessive speed and disregarding a traffic signal could make him liable for civil legal damages which would offer money compensation to those with personal injuries suffered in the crash.
