Seattle bicycle officers, Mike Gore and Travis Hill, are suing the city for negligence, which resulted in brutal injuries which may have been preventable. Reports obtained from the Seattle authorities in Washington on Thursday, May 14, confirmed the negligence lawsuit, filed by both cops, in hopes of recovering recompense for damages.
Court documents affirmed that the plaintiffs suffered bicycle injuries in the line of duty months ago, causing them to get sidelined. One of the cops sustained injuries to his left arm, with his labrum torn from the ventral portion of his shoulder, down to the back.
The other suffered multiple fractures, leaving his right arm shattered. Since the incident, both sergeants have undergone several orthopedic surgeries to regain the functionality of his arm once again.
Travis Hill, who joined the Bike Unit in 2017, suffered bodily damages less than a year later. On August 18, 2018, the sergeant was patrolling Seattle’s waterfront on a 2014 Volcanic HardTail Mountain Bike. His bicycle’s chain cassette suddenly slipped and locked up, causing him to get tossed over the handlebars and deposited on the concrete floor.
The other cop, Mike Gore, a two-time recipient of the Chief’s Award, an officer of the month award winner, and a celebrated Seattle cop met his misery on June 17, 2019. The police were patrolling downtown Seattle on a 2014 Volcanic bike when the bicycle chain snapped, launching him over the handlebars. He landed on the back of a car, resulting in his disabling injuries.
The lawsuit alleges that both cops have been made to live through lengthy disconcerting surgery, and have remained in constant pain ever since. They also regained only limited use of their arms, and the force relegated the lawmen to only light duties.
Sergeant Gore and Hill believe if the city of Seattle had strived to maintain their bikes properly, the injuries would never have occurred. Under the guidance of attorney Cheryl Snow, the litigants accuse the city of negligence. The negligence lawsuit also seeks general and special damages, as well as a reasonable attorney’s fees.
