A six-year-old San Diego girl was hit by a car while walking to school at approximately 8:00 Wednesday morning, while walking to school with her grandfather, Raul Belgra, and another young girl.
The collision occurred near Paradise Valley Road and Briarwood, in the Bay Terraces/Paradise Hills area of San Diego. The driver of the car told police that he had been attempting to make a left turn onto Paradise Valley Road, and had not seen the pedestrians.
According to Raul Belgra, he and the two young girls were in the middle of a crosswalk when the car hit his granddaughter, trapping her under the front axle of the car. Bystanders stopped and helped lift the car off of the girl, who was treated on the scene by paramedics and then taken to Rady Children’s Hospital for her injuries.
The collision occurred within a mile of two San Diego Unified School District schools: Boone Elementary School and Bell Middle School.
The extent of the girl’s injuries are still unclear.
