Commercial Truck Hits Chicago Cyclist Anastasia Kondrasheva


23-year-old Anastasia Kondrasheva was fatally struck by a small flatbed truck while riding her bicycle on Monday morning in the 3600 block of West Shakespeare in the North Center neighborhood.

The truck that hit Kondrasheva was heading north on Damen before taking a right onto Addison. According to the police, the cyclist, was also traveling north on Damen, colliding with the truck shortly before 8 a.m.

Emergency crews responded to the accident and pronounced the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators from the Chicago Police Department’s Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating the accident further.

The 38-year-old driver of the truck stayed at the scene. He was cited for failing to take due care in avoiding a collision with a pedestrian.

According to one witness account, the light on Damen at Addison was green at the time of the accident.

This is the fifth biking fatality within Chicago city limits this year. In all five of these accident cases, it was a commercial vehicle that struck the rider.

  • August 17 – Francisco Cruz [Maypole at Pulaski]
