Adrian Estrada

The authorities on Tuesday, February 25th, identified the victim of 5 Freeway, Redding, California, DUI collision accident. They revealed his name to be Adrian Estrada, a 20-year-old army officer.

The deceased was stationed in Washington State and was going home to Orange County to pay a surprise visit to his family and girlfriend on Valentine’s Day, February 14th. He got hit from behind by a suspected drunk driver as he was driving on the freeway.

According to the authorities, a woman, who was later identified as Jacenia Hedrick, 22, was driving under the influence in a 2013 Honda Civic. She was heading south on the freeway when she crashed into the back of Estrada’s 2006 BMW sedan that was on the same lane.

The impact of the hit sent the sedan flying, and it overturned several times, stopping just north of Lake Boulevard. Estrada sustained multiple injuries that ended his life.

The police arrested Hedrick at the scene, and she is charged with felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter. Under California law, the woman is facing if convicted a prison sentence in a state penitentiary, fine, and the suspension of her driving privileges.

When trying a felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter, the court will look at the provisions of the California Vehicle Code 23153(a) and (b). It states that for the two offenses to occur, a person must have been driving a vehicle.

The person must have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or a combination of both. The driver must have neglected to perform a legal duty while driving, and the lack of commission must have led to severe bodily harm to another person.
