David Chevalier Morgan met his demise earlier this week when he walked into traffic at Los Osos Valley Road, east of Foothill Boulevard. The 59-year-old man stepped into the busy road for unknown reasons when he was struck down by a moving vehicle.
The California Highway Patrol and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff took charge of the investigation of what seems to be a case of suicide. In their report, the joint law enforcement agencies revealed that the fatal accident occurred at about 7:59 p.m. Thursday, February 27, outside the San Luis Obispo city limits.
Although the investigation is still ongoing, authorities are not ruling out the possibility of suicide, according to Tony Cipolla, a spokesman from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.
Cipolla revealed it was hard to direct blame at the driver and hinted that the deceased man possibly put himself in harm’s way on purpose.
Under the California Highway Traffic Act, it is required that anyone involved in an accident, directly or indirectly, must remain at the scene and provide assistance as to their ability. They are also required to cooperate with law enforcement agents.
If you find yourself in a highway incident, do not attempt to flee the scene. Instead, call an ambulance and report the accident to the police.
Most importantly, get the services of a reputable attorney before you speak to anyone about the incident or claim responsibility.
