A pickup driver involved in a one-vehicle accident met his end following a fatal crash near Hercules, California, which dealt him multiple injuries. The victim of the crash was identified by the authorities on Monday as Daniel Coco, a Fremont resident.
The California Highway Patrol confirmed that the accident took place on Saturday afternoon. Officers reported to the scene at about 12:40 p.m. and discovered the car wreck, with the severely injured motorist in a field off I-80, near Hercules. He was immediately taken to a health facility in Walnut Creek, California, after on-site life-saving procedures were administered on him.
According to reports from the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office, the accident took place just as the man was driving east through Interstate 80 in a Dodge Dakota Pickup. The Fremont resident’s vehicle suddenly swerved right, off I-80, zooming across several traffic lanes until it eventually crashed into a field.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that the truck only halted after crashing into the field, but there was no information on why the operator of the pickup veered off the highway.
The Dodge Dakota was the only vehicle involved in the accident, with Daniel Coco as its sole occupant. No other fatalities were recorded on the scene or linked to the incident.
The 44-year-old Fremont man died shortly after his arrival at John Muir Medical Center Walnut Creek, California.
The California Highway Patrol is looking into possible reasons that caused the deceased to leave the highway. As part of ongoing investigations, the police have requested eyewitnesses with useful information to contact the County Coroner’s office in Martinez.
