Authorities have identified the woman killed in a three-vehicle crash Sunday in Chestnut Hill that hospitalized nine people.
Judith Spencer, 85, of West Roxbury, died from injuries sustained in the wreck, which occurred just before 2 p.m. Sunday, according to police.
Police said a 65-year-old man was driving north on Hammond Street when he swerved into another lane and into oncoming traffic. His vehicle struck two others, the first of which was occupied by three adults and two children, while the second carried Spencer, another adult and one child.
The occupants of the first car struck by the man, whom authorities did not publicly identify, each were taken to an area hospital, where they were treated and released, police said. Spencer and the others in her vehicle were taken to Beth Israel Hospital, according to authorities. The man also was transported to a local hospital.
Spencer was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, police announced late Sunday evening. The extent of the injuries sustained by the others in her vehicle wasn’t disclosed Sunday.
None of the others involved and injured in the crash were identified publicly by authorities. Police have not yet said what might have caused the crash.
