Jesus Meza Found Lying on the Roadside Following Tulare County Hit-and-Run Accident

A man was killed in an accident in Tulare County, California, on Sunday, March 8th, and left by the roadside by the driver who fled the scene. The police identified him as Jesus Meza, 55.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was struck in the night by an unknown driver as he took a walk in the community of Orosi at about 8:30 p.m. The CHP got a call about a man lying on the side of the road and went to investigate.

When they arrived at the scene, they found Meza unresponsive and pronounced him dead. The CHP believes that the driver who hit the deceased fled south on Road 124, as the accident happened south of Risley Avenue.

The CHP has no description of the vehicle involved in the crash, but the investigation is open. They have asked anyone with credible and helpful information on the whereabouts of the driver and the make of his car to contact their Visalia area office on its listed line.

A hit-and-run is a criminal offence that prosecutors charge either as a misdemeanor or a felony, depending on the circumstances of the case. California Vehicle Code 20001 provides that when an accident occurs, the driver should stop when there is a minor or severe injury.

The driver should stop when a person gets killed, a vehicle gets damaged, a parked or moving car is hit, or when a person, animal or property is hit. Failure to do so leads to prosecution, and a conviction leads to imprisonment, fine, or both.
