Ismael Arrenaviz Identified as Bicyclist Killed In Double Traffic Collision

The fatal victim of a car versus bicycle accident, which took place on the highway, near Union Avenue on Monday morning, has been identified by the Kern County Coroner’s Office. The bicyclist’s identity was revealed on Tuesday, March 11, as Ismael Arrenaviz, a father of nine, resident in Bakersfield.

Authorities disclosed that the fatal wreck involved at least three vehicles, including two cars and a bicycle operated by the deceased.

As reported, the bicycle rider was stopped at the interchange between Union Avenue and Columbus Street, observing the red signal on the traffic light at about 11:41 am.

Meanwhile, a motorist, heading west on Columbus Street, approaching the intersection, dozed off behind the wheels. The car operator awoke and made a spontaneous turn towards Union Avenue to beat the traffic, while the stop signal was still up.

The move caused his vehicle to veer off the roadway onto the sidewalk, where he hit the waiting bicyclist. Arrenaviz died on the scene from the multiple injuries sustained in the crash.

Almost immediately, another vehicle rear-ended the car, which struck the fatal victim, causing further injuries. Neither of the car operators involved in the deadly collision suffered injuries.

The motorist responsible for the tragic crash was reportedly not a DUI driver, as confirmed by field sobriety tests.

One of the victim’s daughters, Vanessa, set up a GoFundme page to aid the demised local’s funeral arrangements.

The incident is still under investigation by the county coroner’s office.
