Update on Don Dedinas’ Tragic Death in Placerville Vehicle-Pedestrian Crash

The Placerville Police Department is investigating the death of a man who was killed two weeks ago after being struck by a passing vehicle on Missouri Flat Road, Placerville, California. Authorities on Monday, March 16, released findings from their investigative procedures.

The tragic accident took place on Wednesday, March 4, at about 7:40 pm. The California Highway Patrol reported that the victim was allegedly rolling a car tire through one of the traffic lanes, just south of Highway 50 prior to the tragic occurrence.

Meanwhile, a motorist, driving a 2007 Mitsubishi Raider, was heading north on Missouri Flat, approaching the east traffic lane of Highway 50, near Perks Court.

The report stated that just as the pickup attempted to join the Highway, it suddenly struck the pedestrian, who was in the middle of the road at the time, causing him fatal injuries.

Paramedics responding to the fatal wreck declared the pedestrian dead on the scene. However, the operator of the Mitsubishi raider, identified as 73-year-old Maria Caceres of Pollock Pines was not injured in the deadly collision.

The fatal victim has since been identified by the CHP as Don J. Dedinas, a 52-year-old resident of Foothill Farms, California.

Field sobriety tests confirmed that the pickup driver, who waited at the crash site, was not under the influence at the time of the accident.

The cause of the fatal accident remains under investigation by the Placerville office of the CHP.
