The California Highway Patrol, in its preliminary report, stated that the crash that injured Lopez happened on State Route 46, East, precisely near Antelope Road at about 8:15 p.m.

The report showed that an older man from San Luis Obispo was driving a 2010 Chino motor coach, heading east when the vehicle collided with a Freightliner driven by Lopez. The unnamed 84-year-old man died from the impact.

Many adults can safely drive well into their 80s and beyond depending on their mental health and physical wellbeing. However, many older people experience a lot of issues that affect them when behind the wheel.

To prevent a high accident rate among older drivers, they should always wear their seatbelts when behind the wheel, and when it’s uncomfortable, adjust the shoulder mount or buy a shoulder pad that slips over the belt.

Older drivers should mute their cellphones while driving, and ensure they have parked in a safe place before responding to a text, make or answer a call. Avoid eating while driving, and keep all forms of refreshment out of reach.

Older people should avoid drinking and driving or taking any medication that causes drowsiness. Keep out all forms of distractions, choose safer routes, drive when there is less traffic, and more in the daylight.
