Police: Christina Lay Killed In Head-On Wreck Outside Washington, D.C.

Authorities said an Edgewater woman who was seriously injured in a Maryland crash near Washington, D.C., on Monday has died.

Christina M. Lay, 49, suffered life-threatening injuries in the wreck, which occurred Monday evening outside of Annapolis, according to authorities. She was taken to an area hospital where she later was pronounced dead.

Investigators determined that a 17-year-old driver was traveling north on Davidsonville Road at about 5:20 p.m. Monday near Maryland 424. The driver crossed the center line and struck Lay’s vehicle, which was heading south on Davidsonville Road.

Both Lay and the 17-year-old driver were taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where Lay was pronounced dead, according to county authorities. Police did not provide identifying information for the teen driver, who suffered serious injuries in the wreck.

The crash remains under investigation. Authorities did not disclose what factors they believe contributed to the wreck, but excessive speeding or intoxication are not suspected at this time.

According on a person who expressed condolences on Lay’s online obituary, the Edgewater woman was “one of those people who was a giver and gave 100% to everything and everybody.”

“She was loved by many and made her own imprint on people’s lives,” the person wrote. “I think those of us who knew (Lay) are better people because of her friendship.”
