A man survived the fatal collision that occurred in Corning, 100 miles to Sacramento, California. Richard Murphy, 64, on Sunday, March 22nd, walked away with little or no injuries after his 2015 Mack semi-truck collided with a smaller vehicle.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Murphy was driving the big rig with a full trailer diesel, on Sunday night. The man was heading westbound on South Avenue near Mary Avenue when a Nissan Altima crossed the center median into his lane.
The Nissan driver, who was identified only as a 45-year-old male, collided head-on with the semi-truck. The man sustained massive injuries and was pronounced dead by the paramedics at the scene.
The CHP said it is unclear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the fatal collision. The road was closed off for hours and was reopened at about 3:30 a.m. on Monday, March 23rd, after the preliminary investigation was concluded.
The identity of the deceased was withheld pending the autopsy and notification of his next-of-kin. The investigation into the crash remains active, and anyone with information should contact the CHP Red Bluff office.
Accidents occur for a lot of reasons, and when it does, the authorities bring a charge against the person with the highest liability. When that happens, they recommend the erring driver to contact an attorney to advise him or her of the applicable laws and possible punishment. The nature of the lawsuit that arises depends on the circumstance of each case, and the latter also determines the punishment or restitution, or both the court will award.
