A woman who struck a parked car in Eureka, California, while traveling with a minor, has been arrested by the police. Jaclyn Campbell, 35, was involved in an accident on Tuesday, March 25th, while driving under the influence.
The Eureka Police Department, in its accident report, stated that the crash occurred at Buhne and Harrison Streets, Eureka. Campbell was heading south on Harrison in a grey Ford sedan when she hit a legally parked blue hatchback.
Officers who were dispatched on an injury accident call found that the woman had an unidentified minor with her at the time of the crash. A field sobriety test showed that Campbell was about three times above the legal blood alcohol concentration.
The legal limit in California is .08 percent. The woman was placed under arrest at the scene and is facing a charge of child endangerment for driving under the influence with a juvenile in the car.
The EPD has not reported any injury or fatality from the accident. They were assisted at the accident scene by the California Highway Patrol, and the Humboldt Bay Fire Department.
A driver who drives under the influence with a child in the car will under California law face an aggravated or felony DUI charge. A DUI with child endangerment always results in jail time, with a first-time offender getting 48 hours in county jail.
However, if the driver has an accident that results in the death of a child, then the person will face a murder charge with a lengthier prison sentence.
