Authorities: George Norris Dies Day After Bicycle Vs. Car Crash In Ipswich


One of three bicyclists seriously injured when they were struck by a vehicle Thursday in Ipswich has died, according to authorities.

George Norris, 58, died at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on Friday morning, according to a release from the Essex County District Attorney’s Office. The other two bicyclists still are being treated at the hospital, authorities said.

Investigators said Norris was riding was on Topsfield Road near Turner Hill at about 2:10 p.m. Thursday when they were struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, publicly identified only as a 43-year-old Ipswich woman, reportedly remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

The three bicyclists – Norris, a 60-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man — were transported to area hospitals for treatment of serious injuries. The driver of the vehicle that struck Norris and the other two cyclists also was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Authorities have not yet announced any citations or charges in connection to the incident. Local authorities and state law enforcement officials continue to investigate the incident.

A GoFundMe campaign set up by a family friend identified the other bicyclists as Amy and Jack, members of George Norris’ family.

“This is a devastating loss for the community, his family and we, his work family,” campaign organizers wrote on the GoFundMe page.
