Police: Colton Perry Killed In Single-Vehicle Hughesville Crash

Authorities are investigating a single vehicle crash Thursday that left a Charles County man fatally injured.

Colton T. Perry, 24, of Hughesville, was pronounced dead at an area hospital soon after the wreck, which occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on Maryland 231 in Charles County, according to Maryland State Police Press release. No other vehicles were involved in the wreck and no additional injuries were reported.

Police said Perry was driving west on Maryland 231 at 8:30 p.m. Thursday when he lost control of his vehicle. The sedan went off the roadway, slammed into a tree and then rolled back onto the highway, according to the release.

Emergency responders arrived and transported to Perry to Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata, according to the release. However, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

“Due to the seriousness of the collision, a request was made for a Collision Reconstruction Specialist to assume the investigation,” the release stated.

An autopsy will be conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, police said. A preliminary investigation suggests that alcohol and speed might have contributed to the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Maryland State Police at 301-392-1200.
