A 28-year-old man, Shiloh J. Alonso, was arrested on Wednesday, April 1, for the abuse of an older woman in Fort Bragg, California. The suspect reportedly stabbed the 68-year-old on the neck using a knife, before calling 911 to report the assault and request medical aid.
Officers of the Fort Bragg Police Department responded to the incident, which took place at the 100 block of Minnesota Avenue just before 2 pm. According to the FBPD, they got a call from the suspect, reporting that he stabbed a woman, and that prompted their timely response.
When officers got to the reported location, they found the victim with a stab wound on her neck. The suspect stayed at the scene and was taken into custody by law enforcement agents.
The emergency response team administered first aid to the stabbed woman before moving her to a waiting ambulance. The ambulance transported the 68-year-old to a helicopter, which then airlifted her to a Sonoma County hospital for the commencement of her treatment. The identity of the elderly Fort Bragg woman was not disclosed.
Meanwhile, Alonso was booked into the Mendocino County Jail following his arrest, where he now faces charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, and felony battery. His relationship with the elder abuse victim was not established.
The FBPD is conducting active investigations to determine the prelude to the attack.
The California penal code makes provisions for the protection of older persons, making it a criminal offense to abuse anyone 65 years and older. A violation may attract a sentence of up to one year in a county jail or four years in a state prison.
